NRR223: VALISE "Hydro-Industrial Archive" C52

"Hydro-Industrial Archive" is a collection of hydrophone recordings made in North America's first waterways to be poisoned by toxic industrial runoff. Sourced in the Blackstone Valley and Atlantic Coast, the Susquehanna, Chemung, Connecticut, and East River among other kills and creeks. Historically these waterways were exploited to power the country's first industrial mills and facilitate the emergence of the telecommunications industry. I've now mined them to witness them, seek communion, and listen to their voices. Ghosts of shipyards, payphone phreaks, data streams, and feral signals echo in the currents, whispering what once was and what remains ongoing.

The hydrophone recordings were made during every season between 2020-2022.
