NRR212: YÜ//F "Monolith" CD

The long-running formerly Providence based YÜ//F sees widespread release with ‘Monolith’ full length CD, a follow up to 2024’s ‘Clouds Pass / Stone Remains’ cassette, and intermittent transmissions from the Oncidium label. These recordings preempt a disintegration of self followed by a renewed clarity of intent. Dead, dry synthetic elements foreground a melancholic withdrawal which coalesce into passages conjuring images of autumn grey vistas, solace at early dawn, withered interiors. A profound sense of longing for another place and time flows through this music and reads like something of a paradigm example of the project. Insofar as it is useful to contextualize, it is work that propagates from a particular strain of the New England underground and resides within a broader lineage populated by the likes of Ekhein, Three Songs of Lenin, and Callow God label rosters. - Dean
